Our engineers are Gas Safe registered, work methodically, and leave you with a clear picture of your boiler's condition — including anything worth watching before it becomes a breakdown.

What an annual boiler service includes

A service is a safety and performance check, not just a quick look. Our engineer will typically:

  • Check the boiler and flue are correctly installed and free from damage
  • Inspect the flue terminal and check for signs of spillage
  • Test gas pressure and gas rate against the manufacturer's figures
  • Test combustion with a flue gas analyser
  • Remove the casing and inspect the main internal components
  • Clean components where required by the manufacturer
  • Check seals, electrical connections and safety devices
  • Check system pressure and the expansion vessel
  • Test the boiler through a full operating cycle
  • Explain the findings and record the results for you

Why regular servicing matters

Servicing protects the two things that matter most: safety and efficiency. A poorly maintained gas appliance can produce carbon monoxide, which is why combustion testing and flue checks are part of every service.

A boiler that is running correctly also uses less gas than one that is struggling, and small faults picked up during a service are usually far cheaper to put right than a mid-winter breakdown. Most manufacturers also require annual servicing for a warranty to remain valid.

Signs your boiler needs attention

  • Pressure that drops between top-ups
  • Banging, kettling or gurgling when the heating fires
  • Radiators taking longer than usual to warm up
  • A yellow rather than crisp blue flame on older appliances
  • Occasional lockouts or error codes that clear on reset
  • More than twelve months since the last service

How long does a boiler service take?

For a straightforward domestic boiler in good condition, allow around 45 minutes to an hour. Older appliances, or boilers that need cleaning or further investigation, can take longer. We will tell you if we find anything that needs more time.

Preparing for your appointment

  • Clear access to the boiler and any cupboard it sits in
  • Make sure the gas and electrical supply to the boiler is on
  • Have any previous service records or warranty paperwork to hand
  • Note down anything unusual you have noticed since the last service
  • Keep pets safely out of the working area

Annual service reminders

It is easy to lose track of when a boiler was last serviced. Ask us to note your details when we visit and we will get in touch when your next service is due, so your boiler is checked before the cold weather arrives rather than after it.

Masoud has just completed a repair and service of my Vaillant Combi boiler. He managed to fit me into his schedule at relatively short notice. He is an impressive technician; anticipating the source of my problem and having the replacement part to solve it. He completed the service of the boiler efficiently leaving my kitchen as clean as when he entered. I can highly recommend him and will definitely give him a call in the future.
