If you can smell gas
A suspected gas escape is not a boiler repair — it is an emergency. Turn off the gas supply at the meter if it is safe to do so, do not operate any electrical switches, do not use naked flames, open doors and windows, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 straight away. Do not use your mobile phone inside the property.
Urgent situations we deal with
- Complete boiler failure with no heating and no hot water

- Sudden and total loss of system pressure
- A boiler that has locked out on a fault code and will not reset
- Loud banging or unusual noises from the boiler
- A boiler that keeps cutting out within minutes of firing

What to do before you call
- Note the make, model and any error code on the display
- Check whether other gas appliances are working
- Check the boiler pressure gauge and note the reading
- Check the fuse or circuit breaker for the boiler and the timer settings
- If water is leaking, place a container underneath and turn off the water supply to the boiler if you can do so safely
- Try one reset only — repeated resets can make a fault harder to diagnose

- You can smell gas anywhere in or around the property
- Your carbon monoxide alarm is sounding
- There is a suspected gas escape from a meter or supply pipe
- Anyone in the property feels unwell with headaches, dizziness or nausea that eases when they leave
Keeping warm and safe while you wait
If you have no heating, close internal doors, keep curtains drawn and use extra layers and blankets. Use electric heaters only if they are in good condition and never leave them unattended. Do not use gas hobs, patio heaters or barbecues to heat a room.
